Foreign Office Directors visit Springfield to boost global trade connections

Foreign office directors from more than 14 countries visited Springfield in September as part of a statewide tour of Missouri. Organized by the Missouri International Trade & Investment Office within the Department of Economic Development, the visit aimed to build connections with local businesses and communities interested in expanding into global markets.

The directors represent Missouri’s international offices in key markets across Europe, Asia, North and South America and Australia. These offices play a vital role in supporting Missouri businesses by facilitating export opportunities and attracting foreign direct investment (FDI). FDI strengthens local economies by injecting outside capital, creating jobs and fostering global growth and trade across local sectors. Missouri’s central location, particularly the Springfield region, allows quick access to new customers across the U.S., a significant advantage for potential investors.

During their visit to Springfield, the group toured Springfield Underground, explored the Ozarks Tech Center for Advanced Manufacturing and experienced the vibrancy of downtown. They also stopped at the Chamber office to meet with economic development staff, who presented an overview of the regional economy. Of course, no trip to Springfield would be complete without a visit to Bass Pro Shops, which concluded their visit to our community.

“These foreign directors are our bridge to the global market,” said Chamber President Matt Morrow. “Their visit allows local companies access to resources for navigating the export and import process and to connect with key decision-makers who can help them grow internationally. Likewise, these directors facilitate foreign investment into Missouri, helping us grow our economy and create new jobs."

This was the first time the directors visited Springfield since 2020. Springfield was one of several stops on their statewide tour, which also included St. Louis, Jefferson City, Kansas City, Independence and Columbia.

“This Directors’ Visit Week in Missouri has been an incredible trip. Our colleagues at DED, state and local partners, companies and the wonderful people of Missouri have truly shown us what it means to belong, and their heartfelt hospitality has left an enduring impression on all of us,” said DED Foreign Offices Director & Director for Europe Mario Monsreal Vargas, who is based in Germany.
