Small Business Spotlight – May 2019: Shepherd of the Hills Homestead and Adventure Park
Company name: Shepherd of the Hills Homestead and Adventure Park
Person in charge: Jeff Johnson, co-owner and general manager
Give us a brief history of the Shepherd of the Hills and what makes it unique:
Entering into our 60th season, we continue to bring Harold Bell Wright’s famous novel, The Shepherd of the Hills, to life each night in the Outdoor Theater. During the daytime, guests can take part in historical tours of the homestead visiting the places and learning about the actual people that inspired the legendary tale.
This season, guests can enjoy the return of Shad Heller’s Original Toby Show. Previously performed in Branson’s Corn Crib Theater, this classic has been reborn as a dinner show in the homestead’s Playhouse theater by some of the original cast.
The homestead is also host to several shops, Little Pete’s Playground and Petting Zoo, along with a brand new restaurant opening this 2019 season.
What’s the most exciting recent highlight for your business?
Recently, we have added Shepherd’s Adventure Park, which has been Voted America’s #1 Aerial Adventure park by USA Today. It includes Zipline Canopy Tours, off-road ATV Adventures, a ropes course, and the wildly popular Extreme Vigilante Zip-rider, a zipline that launches riders from the top of the tower, over half a mile of Ozarks scenery, to the landing site, reaching speeds of up to 50 miles per hour.
Where do you hope to see your business in 12 months?
We hope to continue the preservation of Ozarks history while creating a destination that will inspire guests of all ages for generations to come.
