GO CAPS students set to show off their work

The second crop of students participating in the GO CAPS program are preparing to show off the results of a year of hard work. More than 150 high school juniors and seniors from 11 area school districts will present projects on April 26 during the GO CAPS Capstone Showcase at the Springfield Art Museum.

The showcase is the culmination of a yearlong learning experience, where participants will present information about a project of interest or business partner project they’ve been working on throughout the year. Students will get the chance to demonstrate a wide range of skills gained through the program, from communication and collaboration to creativity, critical thinking and time management.

“These students have spent nearly an entire school year finding what they’re passionate about and putting their new skills and their energy into fostering those ideas,” says Lindsay Haymes, executive director of GO CAPS and the Chamber’s vice president of workforce development. “This showcase gives them the chance to show off what they’ve been developing, and I know they’re really excited about this opportunity.”

Projects will be on display for visitors to view in an open house format beginning at 6 p.m. In addition, the top project team from each of GO CAPS’ strands – engineering & manufacturing, entrepreneurship, medicine & health care and technology solutions – will make a presentation at 7 p.m. in the museum auditorium. Guests will be free to come and go at their leisure during the evening.
