Small Business Spotlight: February 2019 – SMOJS Security
Company Name: SMOJS Security
Person in charge: Tim Brenner, CEO
Year founded: 2008
Describe what your organization provides for its customers:
SMOJS provides a sense of integrity, security, and protection to all of its clients. SMOJS offers a 24/7 hour dispatch and patrol service to its clients. We handle all calls and only contact law enforcement if an arrest is necessary. This process reduces strain on area police resources and aides in keeping local taxes stable and affordable.
Give us a brief history of your business and what makes it unique:
In 2008, CEO/founder Tim Brenner started Southern Missouri Judicial Services to better serve a market where he recognized a need. Starting as a bail bond/private investigation company, SMOJS would specialize in high-risk assignments to help fill this need. Having 18 years of full-time law enforcement experience that included assignments in patrol, undercover, swat, investigations, narcotics, corrections, administration and K-9, Brenner recognized a need for a higher level of professionalism in private markets. What makes SMOJS unique is that SMOJS has a 14,000-square-foot building that now houses their offices and training center. SMOJS’s team consists of professionals who are able to handle any assignment and pride themselves on that. The staff will testify in a court of law to their findings, and have prepared cases for state and federal courts. Brenner is happy to share his staff's credentials and will provide CVs on request to qualified clients and judicial circuits. Today the company is actively involved in area chambers of commerce, civic groups, and professional organizations. Brenner speaks regularly to civic groups and his K-9 Units give demonstrations of their capabilities.
What’s the most exciting recent highlight for your business?
Recently SMOJS received an award from the North Springfield Betterment Association for its commitment and involvement in the community and in particular the north side of Springfield. SMOJS did a nice renovation of its now 14,000-square-foot building in 2018-2019.
Where do you hope to see your business in 12 months?
SMOJS is growing our business to other states in the midwest area! By the end of the year, we hope to be in 10 different states!
What advice would you offer to someone starting their own small business?
Patience! Rome wasn't built overnight. Continue to be creative, don’t let anyone tell you that you can't do something, go for your dreams and be persistent, but not pushy. Remember to have great tenacity and faith, and I believe your dreams will come true.
